“I know. I have an idea” – Mark says
“That is never a good thing” – Marcie Thinks
Next thing I know, I have a tent pitched up in our living room next to our fireplace.
“Awe. How Romantic.” – Marcie Thinks and says.
Are you running out of ideas of how to keep their spark going in your marriage? Are you frustrated by the mundane nights spent in front of the television? The internet is filled with ideas of how to help marriages. Thank you for reading our article or blogs.
As a counselor in the past, I have worked with many young couples, frustrated in their marriage. I also have a love for DIY and craft projects. I learn something new every day about my husband. How about you? The key is to be open-minded to learn and listen for something new, about each other.
Creative Communication
A great way to communicate your thoughts, feelings, hopes, and dreams, can be through a fun crafts. Be creative and create memorable milestone moments in your marriage. In counseling, I would teach couples how to create a decorative jar, they make together, and then fill with slips of paper with a few word phrases or sentences of topics or ideas to talk about or do, nightly at dinner, or at least once per week. You write the topics or things to do on small pieces of paper, then fold them up and put them in the jar. Then, just like drawing numbers from a hat, draw a piece of paper from the jar, to have an idea of what to talk about or do together that night, bonding you closer to each other. When you write ideas of things to do, make sure you choose projects or things that do not take more than one week to accomplish. You do not want to get overwhelmed and quit this bonding activity to strengthen your marriage. You could even have your guests at your wedding reception; use the guest book area to write down ideas on slips of paper to put in the jar, as a guest sign-in project. How fun is that?
Marriage Conversation Starters
When you fill out your slips of paper, you are discovering the “story of us” or you as a couple. Growing closer in any marriage takes work, but you can make your work fun. Another creative idea is to put your slips of paper or projects you have done already, in a decorative wedding time capsule. Then years later in your marriage, open the time capsule and look back at what all you have done together and how far your marriage has come since then. This alone, will be a touching and loving milestone moment together as you reminisce about what all you both have accomplished together in life.
