Writing Letters to the Future
Writing letters to the future can be so much fun. Have you seen this video that has gone viral on Facebook. The InspireMoreOfficial Facebook page shared a heartwarming video about a girl who opened her time capsule. This Facebook post and video was on October 23rd at 12:04pm. This is a video that you need to grab kleenex first, before you watch it. This girl behind the story in this video by Susie Aldershof Van Metre. So, grab your tissues, and read through the video slides below.
Are you crying yet, like me? It is so touching. It brings back so many memories of the hand written letters I have saved from my grandparents, parents, and other life mentors. It gives you so much hope to read these letters again when you need hope or miss a loved one who has since passed. Stay tuned to seeing a video of one of our customers and fans of our Baby Time Capsules. She will be opening her Baby Time Capsule on October 28th. It is such an exciting time for the whole family to reminisce about what life was like when she was born.
For example ideas about writing letters to the future, this blog will concentrate on letters for a child’s First School Year Time Capsule. You can use the “Any Occasion” DIY Time Capsule, seen here, to make your child’s School Time Capsule or a time capsule for anything else you can think of. For example, make a DIY Time Capsule for vacation, Christmas, New Year’s, Family, Career, Graduation, Boy or Girl Scouts, your own life journey, Thanksgiving, Business, Adoption, Anniversary, etc. The sky’s the limit for ideas of what you can do with the DIY Time Capsule. Be creative and be a part of history.
When writing letters to the future, the major obstacle here is persuading yourself and others to sit down and write it or type it out. Just do it. If you and others don’t know what to write, you will find suggestions on the back of the “Message to the Future” envelopes included with the Baby, Wedding, and “Any Occasion” DIY Time Capsules seen here.
For Mom and Dad: your child’s daily life int he world today, current topics, and hopes and predictions for the future. Use extra paper if necessary.
For Grandparents: their most memorable recollections of your child’s first few years and hopes and predictions for the future; what life was like when they were in school.
From Siblings: their most memorable recollections of growing up with a younger or older brother or sister and hopes and predictions for the future.
From Teacher: their observations of personality and hopes and predictions for the future.
A sealed Letter to the Future can be considered a Time Capsule in and of itself. Small items, such as photos, that easily fit in the envelope can be included to enhance the personal message. Write as many “Message” or Letters to the Future as you can encourage family and friends to do. It is the most important part of a time capsule. If possible, invite all writers to the Time Capsule opening ceremony and have them read their letters aloud. This will be a big thrill for everyone involved. If you record the event, you will then have the voice saved forever, of the person who wrote that letter, long after they pass away.
The official opening date for all sealed Letter to the Future messages should be consistent. Make sure you give this date to each letter writer. Whatever you do, the most important thing is to have fun with this memorable gift.
