Tips for Making a Time Capsule
Learn tips for making a time capsule today. It is a gift you can give yourself or someone else you care about. Make a time capsule that you do not bury, but instead are proud to display. You can also hide the time capsule in a closet or attic, but I do not recommend you bury it.
As you start making your time capsule, you first have to choose a container. Make sure you pick something that will close. Cardboard boxes are not recommended because mice and moth can get in and destroy your special and sentimental items. Choose something like a container, metal tin like this one seen here, or put together a PVC pipe or tube yourself.
Find photos and mementos.
Next, go throughout your home, your business, school, church, or wherever you want to save memories from, and find photos and mementos you want to save. Sort the photos and memorabilia into different times, events, ages, etc on a table. Then take a post it note card and label each item or write on the back of the photos about who is in the picture, what is happening, or why you choose to put that item in the time capsule. These are some tips for making a time capsule, so that when you open it 20 or 30 years from now, you know why you saved that item or memory.
Now that you are organized, you can get the most out of your time capsule. Decide what you want your time capsule theme to be about first. Then, find scrapbook type background paper or create your own background for your time capsule. After you make the background, choose the photos or other scrapbook embellishment items you want to put on the outside of your DIY time capsule to decorate it.

Then, if you see a special item you want to include in the time capsule during the next few days or this year, just drop it in the time capsule.
Involve your family and friends.
Involve your family and friends to bring an item to put in the time capsule if it is for someone special, or a family reunion time capsule possibly. Bring something that represents the world today, to put in the time capsule, like a local or national newspaper. Imagine reading these top headlines 20 or 30 years later. Also, make sure you fill out the “message to the future” stationary, making fun predictions about the future.
Then, at the end of this year, choose a do not open until date to put on the lid of the time capsule. Create your own numbers or use the sticker numbers included with every DIY time capsule to put on the lid. Then, in the future open your time capsule and reminisce about what life was like when you filled it.
