Living Intentionally
Living intentionally takes thought, work, and support. In our last blog we started an obituary challenge for you to write down what you want others to say about you when you are gone. As we all start this new year, we have many things on our minds about changing or setting up New Year’s resolutions to better ourselves.
Are you satisfied with where your life is headed in the future? Would you change anything if you could? Similar to completing a bucket list, an obituary challenge helps you think about living intentionally. We do not want you to live with regrets, which is why we want to challenge you to write down all the things you wish you would have done in your life past and present. Of course you are still alive, and while you are we want you to write your obituary, put it in a time capsule you make, then one year from now open it up, read it and assess how you are doing.
Dream Big
A time capsule is a true account and reflection of your life and what it was like. My parents always taught me to think big and dream big. This is what this challenge is all about. How can you start accomplishing things in your life, checking off your bucket list, and live a healthier and more meaningful daily life?
When working in counseling with other children and young adults there were many challenges and discussions about life and how to make it better. The obituary challenge was one of the most impacting. When you open your time capsule and see how far you have come and accomplished off your list, you will see how far you have come living intentionally. Then, this will empower you more to keep going and taking care of yourself mentally, physically, and emotionally.
What do you want on your tombstone?
Remember the old Tombstone pizza commercial asking this question. I have not been able to get that out of my head since then because it was such a great commercial with a great question to make you think. I love great marketing ideas. Anyways, what would you want on your tombstone? What would you want written in that obituary, years from now? Are there certain words, phrases or quotes that sum up your life and who you are?
What characteristic traits and values does your life represent?
Who have you made an impact on and how has that relationship influenced you?
What are some of your major accomplishments in life? (now and in the future you hope to accomplish).
What did you care about most in life? How did you express that passion?
What legacy did you leave for your children, grand children, and future generations?
This is such an emotionally challenging activity. A time capsule is a self exploratory, personal development that is crafty and fun at the same time. Offering important reflection while making, filling, and in the future opening the time capsule, it is sure to be a lasting and heart felt gift to yourself or someone else as you work to make every day count.
Making Milestone Moments Count,
