Learn how to journal and change your life for the better. The keeping of a journal has been a pursuit of culture for hundreds of years. In times men and women of learning, studiously kept a record of the days, their achievements, and their dreams. As we’ve gleaned much insight, we owe a debt of gratitude.
For some people, the keeping of a diary is a natural extension of their lives. Many of us have raised the family Bible to detect snippets cut flowers pressed between the pages, from the newspaper, envelopes with pictures or letters tucked away safely to discover? I indeed have found treasures in the ‘ordinary’ of books on the shelves of bookshops and at garage sales. It always comes to discover them and then I feel a certain sadness that these treasures have ended up in the hands of a stranger.
The unexpected gift of those objects has been a richer understanding of our desire to record and keep essential memories and items and while tucking these treasures into the pages of a book isn’t precisely journaling, it’s a component of the amazingly creative and satisfying pass-time.
There are a few skills when learning how to journal, some of them are:
Make the space and time to do it on a regular basis. Whether you’re keeping a garden diary a dream journal, a baby journal, travel journal or a journal of any sort, this one step will make or break your experience. In case you have to go so far as to create a ‘date’ for yourself – do it. At the very least, spend some time once a week to check your calendar or diary and record the highlights or low lights of your week. Even I’m an occasional author in my diary, but when I do write and commune with my wonderful companion, the value I receive from this is immense. It’s always worth the effort.
Begin with something you’re passionate about. This mаkеs іt sо muсh mоrе comfortable to write regularly, thoughts and the words can seem to flow without effort, and you will love reading back through the pages of your diary entries. I have more than one journal since I like to maintain my gardening knowledge (failures and successes) separate from my personal and spiritual growth discussions. I’m sure you will develop a style and a procedure that works for you.
Use materials that Inspire and Motivate you: My journals are ALWAYS beautiful to use and to look at. Likewise my writing implement. I have a preference for a particular sort of pen, a specific color and a particular texture to the newspaper, This adds significantly to my enjoyment of the writing process, and when looking back, I can recall what it was about that specific book or pencil that attracted me. Layers of enjoyment will build a healthy relationship. Learn what you like, experiment with various things until you discover the right mix of elements for you.
Learn from others: So many times at the start of my adventure I longed tо рееk іnsіdе thе раgеs оf оthеr реорlеs јоurnаls. Whаt dіd thеу dо? Ноw dіd thеу dо іt? І wаs fоrtunаtе that some of my friends were ready to share some of their pages and I had been introduced to the idea of painting and drawing and collage and color and doodles along with the words which I was writing. This reminded me of this newspaper cuttings, pressed flowers and pictures I have always found within the pages of old books and this idea of incorporating feel into my diary was so enticing I started right away. I am so thankful to my friends for opening my eyes.
