A Marine’s Life is Re-Celebrated with the Most Amazing Surprise!
Now this is a time capsule moment. There are special surprises and sentimental stories brought up when you open a time capsule. Lance Cpl. Fred Macel’s passed away nine years ago. A flea market in similar to a time capsule. You never know what you may find, and it is a place filled with stories. A couple was shopping in a Texas flea market and found an American tribute flag for this Marine who was killed in a helicopter crash in Iraq in 2005.
When you take the time to dig through boxes, you never know what you will find. What is in the old boxes or containers, in your closet or basement? While looking through a pile of old flags, at the flea market, the couple (Lanie and Walter Brown) found this time capsule flag with dozens of messages written by other Marines for Maciel, when he passed away. What a way to leave your legacy, grief messages, and hopes for the family left behind. Maciel’s story involved him crashing in a sandstorm. It is such as sad loss when one of our own Marines, or servicemen, die tragically while helping defend our freedom.
Social media is a powerful tool to reconnect and communicate with strangers, who may one day become best friends. Using Facebook, Patsy (Maciel’s mother) contacted this couple who found the flag. She thought she already had all of the belongings of Maciel. What a special day it was, reconnecting with her son, when she was able to see and hold this keepsake flag that was given to her. This was an incredible, touching moment. It is hard to write this blog without shedding a tear. This flag is more than a symbol. It is her son coming back to life. This is what we want our time capsules to be for you. A symbol of items collected, memorabilia preserved, to help a significant person or milestone event come back to life.
