Creative Way to Thank a Veteran

War is never good.  I believe more than ever that our world needs peace.  With that said, I also believe that the best offense is a good defense.  I believe that the men and women of our Military are some of the most amazing people!  Our Armed Forces are a necessary part of our nations security.

Thank you Veterans

I never served in any branch of the military.  There are some days that I regret that decision.  My brother, father-in-law, father, and several other family members have served.  I appreciate all of my freedoms, and those who served to protect those freedoms.  I have deep respect for those who will “stand on a wall” and say, “You are safe tonight, because I am standing here.”  (Reference to the movie, “A Few Good Men.”)

These men and women do a job that puts their lives in danger everyday.  They do it because they love this country.  They do it for the people they love.  They do it for complete strangers.  They do it for me.  These men and women drive their vehicles in areas they know can have roadside bombs and militants and snipers.  They protect the people.  They give up their lives at home, with their families.  They give up their arms and legs.  They don’t want your praises or your pity.

What the Military Teaches Us

For about 12 years, I was a foster parent.  I had a young man in my home that went on to the military.  He was a good kid.  He was intelligent, energetic, and incredibly funny.  My wife and I still laugh at some of the jokes he made years ago.  Some of them have become long-standing responses to the things we say.  When he left my home, he chose to go into the military.  A few years, and a tour in Iraq later, he emerged a different person.  I hadn’t seen him in quite a while, but I was pleasantly surprised by the man that stood before me.  He was the same intelligent, energetic and incredibly funny guy I had know, but now he was also had dignity, honor, character, and discipline.  The army had taught him respect.  The army had taught him honor.  Since his tour in Iraq, he has moved on to get engaged, married, and recently even seen the birth of his first child.  When he was in my home as a foster child, I would have never expected him to become the kind of man he is.  The military turned this high-strung boy into an incredible man.

Great Veterans Day Commercial – Touching

Speedway Gas Stations recently began running a commercial about a soldier coming home.  It follows the journey from the plane to his wife and young daughter.  It touches my heart every time.  I think about the sacrifice of being away from his family.  I think about the sacrifice of those who weren’t so lucky and are unable to return.  I think about my freedoms, and the fact that they are the one’s protecting them.

To all the military, past, present and future . . . Thank you!  Your sacrifice, (from time to limbs, to life) is greatly appreciated by The Original Time Capsule Company and by me personally.  I salute you to the best of my ability, as it is the greatest form of respect I can think of!

So what is a creative way to thank a veteran or future veteran?

I am sure you all know someone in the military. If not, find a friend who knows someone and send them a letter. card, care package, anything to say thank you. Those to words can go a long way in the world today.

We have all been touched by someone who means a lot to us.
