11 Time Capsule Craft Tips
Check out these 11 time capsule craft tips to get you started saving memories today. There are only so many days in a year. Many of them are taken up by our busy lives. Find one weekend to make a time capsule for yourself, family, school, etc.
- Don’t forget to make this fun. It does not have to be perfect. This is a personal gift of your world and h
- ow you currently see it.
- Find a temporary box to start organizing and keep your items in. You may just use several different shoe boxes to sort out things in different categories of your life, like family, work, school, faith, etc. If you will be using this temporary box for a year to collect things, make sure you do not store it where mice and moth can destroy.
- Ask people you love to help you. Your grandparents especially may want to help you, since this is a fun project about passing on your family history. Ask your grandma to write down as much information as she can about your family’s past stories, medical history, incomes, jobs, etc. You may even want to interview people in the family to save in your time capsule when you are done, to pass on to future great grandchildren who may never be able to meet your grandparents in the future when you open this time capsule.
- Have questions and ideas written out to collect memorabilia and interview others with. For example, think about if you were 20 years older, what do you had from your first year of birth, or high-school?
- Collect as many of the items as possible that you can think of to put in the time capsule. You want to make sure you gather items up and organize them as quickly as possible, so you do not let years slip by then forget about collecting them and they be gone.
- Set up specific folders on your computer to start organizing all your photos digitally.
- Choose a container to use that is cool, dry, and dark so artifacts and memorabilia can be preserved well.
- Include one main page in the time capsule describing why you wanted to do this project. What inspired you? What is the point of this time capsule? Who all was involved in making it? Why did you choose the time you did to re-open it again?
- You may have many people bringing items to put in the time capsule, especially if it is a business or family time capsule. Make sure you also include a tag attached to each item in the time capsule, with a description saying why the item was included, when it was purchased (if known) and the price, or if it is a photo make sure to say who all is in the picture and when it was taken. Make sure you keep an inventory of all the items too.
- Have a party with everyone. Set it up like a special ceremony. Invite all family and friends. It is a time to tell stories, maybe record last minute videos, and choose where to store your time capsule.
We will discuss more tips in our next blog to make sure you included everything and it is the best party ever. What topic or event in your life would you make a time capsule for? Comment below.
Making Milestone Moments Count,
– Marcie
