How to Get Out of Your Comfort Zone
How to Get Out of Your Comfort Zone
A beautiful story began to unfold. We all have a story. As we continue to share our story of how we met, we shared our interests, family background, work history, current positions in life, and of course talked about our youth groups. When you begin talking with anyone, on a common ground, magical things can happen.
Oh What Dreams May Come
The magical things I wanted to happen, were different from what really happened in the future. I wanted to share and exchange youth group game ideas, lesson plans, and encouragement of how to help youth in general while talking with my future husband (I just met) on the phone. Little did I know we would start emailing book like letters back and forth getting to know each other very well.
Work Hard
You have to work hard in life to meet your goals. My goal was to one day work smarter, not harder. One day I was working hard in my parent’s business (factory work building oversized caskets), thinking about the first email I received back from Mark (my future husband I did not know about at that time). I was working with my brother, in this family owned business, which helped put me pay for college on my own. I have always been a very faithful and helpful friend to others in need. I was told by several key influencers in my life, that I had the gift of encouragement. I used it, without even realizing it many times. I have always been very close to my family. I let my brother know everything that was going on in our emails, including how Mark told me about his past divorce. To be honest, it scared me away from talking to him, until my brother opened his mouth.
The Message of Ministry
What was said by Matthew (my younger brother), humbled me and put me back in my place of why I was doing what I was doing online with this profile – using it to minister to those men who think there are no more great girls out there who are faithful, mature, and pure.
“How can you not talk to him anymore? He is just like all your friends you have helped in the past too. Besides, you may get great youth group ideas from him.” Ouch. Those words cut like a knife. He made his point. I stopped, and thought, you know you are right. I did not expect these words from him at all. I expected him to say something like, “Don’t talk to him. He could be an axe murderer or something like that.” Wow. Out of the mouths of babes. I am so glad I listened to Matthew, because that was the beginning of a beautiful friendship, with Mark, and an even closer relationship with my family as I kept them up to date on the latest emails.
Getting Out of Your Comfort Zone
Sometimes it can be hard to step out of our comfort zone, when things get personal, unsafe feeling, or can seem impossible. All I know is that “impossible” actually says “I’m possible.” This is a message I surely want to pass on to my children (well, I may leave out the fact that I met my husband over the internet). Just kidding. Always be honest with your children, but do it in a teachable moment way.
How to Pass on Life Lessons to your Children
May times we go through our work and school days, and forget to write down significant stories, lessons, or ideas that happen throughout our days. You kids need to know what all you did to sacrifice to be able to put them through school, what you did on a daily basis so they know what it is like at your age, when they are that age. One great way to pass on these life lessons, is to include your daily daytimer or weekly planner in a time capsule. You don’t even have to write anything out. It should already be filled out, just for your sanity weekly so you know what kid goes where, and what you have to do for work, home, or school.
That is the advantage of a time capsule, versus a scrapbook for example. You can capture your life lessons and stories to pass on to your children with little work involved. You can get a decorative Baby Time Capsule from https://www.timecapsule.com/product/babystimecapsule/
