Time Capsule or “Show and Tell”
Time Capsule or “Show and Tell”
Is it a time capsule or “show and tell?” A time capsule is the ultimate “show and tell” time. It is a time to review our past stories, favorite items, listen to old songs, and reminisce. Kids learn so many things from hearing family stories.
“What was it like when you grew up dad?” I remember asking this question several times. “What did you do when you were little, for fun?” Little children love to be read stories at night. They jump in bed, get tucked in by their loving parents, and have their eyes glued on your or the book as you tell the story.
Now with new technology, you can even read a book from your phone. We at The Original Time Capsule Company know about the impact of learning and hearing old stories from grandparents. Grandparents are major influencers on children and love to read stories to grandchildren, or show them old heirloom items (show and tell), and talk about the story with that treasured memento. What will your children be doing at Grandma and Grandpa’s house this weekend, or next time they visit them. Make it count. Here is a helpful website to give you ideas next time they visit grandparents at http://www.sheknows.com/parenting/articles/845037/5-tips-for-visiting-grandmas-house
Why Storytelling is important for children:
Please read the following article to help you understand the impact that telling your family stories has on your child. It will change the way you look at night time reading with your loved one. Most of you remember that one favorite book, which we had to have read over and over as a child. Mine was, “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie…” by Laura Numeroff. That was an actual book. What about all the stories that are not in an actual book? What about those stories from your grandparents and great grandparents? Many of those stories need to be in books. Some are in books. I say thank you to those of you who have published them, so we can learn from you.
We encourage you to write your stories on “Message to the Future” letters and save them for your child or grandchild to read later. This way, the story will never be forgotten. As Elaine Reese put it so perfectly, “Books contain narratives, but only family stories contain your personal narratives.” Pay it forward, by saving your personal stories in a time capsule for generations to read. Order your Baby Time Capsule now and get started by saving your child’s favorite story in it, to let him or her read it again years later (like at their graduation party) to reminisce.
