Journal Therapy
Have you ever had journal therapy? It is great for the soul and helps keep you rooted in knowing who you are. Journaling can be a way to get our true feelings out with out anyone talking back to us. It can be a great way to keep important stories and memories alive.
Many times as parents, we feel we do not have time to save all our memories, or make a scrapbook. Life gets so busy. However as you are winding down every night before bed, you can add only five to fifteen minutes to write about your day. What is one positive thing that happened every day? Imagine reviewing a years worth of good things that happened every day this year, at the end of the year. It would be like opening up a time capsule to reminisce.
Build Self Esteem in Yourself and your Children through Journal Therapy
If you do take the time to scrapbook as you write your journal too, both can be a way to focus on great things that your children and other family or friends have done. Highlight their best qualities and personalities. Instead of saving every piece or art or award your child earns, take a picture of them and save the photo in their scrapbook or journal of accomplishments. Imagine yourself or your kids reading about everything you saved, as far as awards, later on in life. How much love do you think that will express to yourself and your children, that you took the time to save it all in picture form. It would be good for the soul to see how much your parents cared to save these things, even if in pictures only.
Message to the Future Letters
Give back to your children in the future, by leaving advice to them about what your life is like as an adult, as you write in your journal at least once per week, let alone daily. Give back a rare gift to your children, by helping them feel a sense of belonging as they read how close attention you paid to their lives. Make sure to write about what you enjoy about your own life currently, and what is important about each of your children. Even, include your children in this journal or scrapbook activity. Have the kids help arrange the photos on the pages. Have them sign their names under each photo throughout the years too. It will be interesting to see how just handwriting changes over time, as they become adults and hopefully learn from your example to create and keep a journal themselves. Leave a Message to the Future letter to yourself or your children about predictions of their life. Again, how interesting would that be to read 20 years from now to see if these predictions will come true. Save these letters in a decorative and unique Baby Time Capsule, seen here.
Share Wisdom
Sharing wisdom about what you have discovered from your life experiences can sometimes save your children from heartache and pain. It can also help give your children a jump start toward a better life or career, now that you can pass on your tricks of the trade. These kinds of lessons are many times the most valuable journal therapy one can offer to their own child. Often, kids do not want to listen to their parent’s voice, but they may just read an old journal which describes your own choices and consequences (good or bad) that you had as a kid. This is a priceless gift to pass on. It will be one of the best gifts you receive in life. So, check out the Baby Time Capsule to get started today, passing on wisdom and journal therapy to your kids.
