Interview Your Child Yearly
Interview your child yearly for a time capsule. This will be one project you thank yourself for doing, years later. Imagine your child opening their own Baby Time Capsule when they graduate high school. What will be in their time capsule that describes their life, and especially what it was like their first few years.
Sometimes it can be very difficult to interview your child, because they will get bored and restless. You do not have to do these interview questions all at once. You might want to spread this project out over the next couple of days. If you want, you can video record their answers, or just write them down to save in a scrapbook or photo album. You would be surprised how your child’s answers can change from week to months later. Kids can be very creative. That is what makes interviewing them so much fun.
You can even ask these same questions at the beginning of the school year, and then again at the end. It will be interesting to see how their answers change. You can even add other school related questions as your child grows, like when they learned their ABCs or colors, or what is their favorite thing to do at school?
Be patient and open to letting your child talk. Do not help encourage the answers for them. This will help make the answers more fun to read years or decades later. However, if your child says “I don’t know” as an answer to a question, ask him to “guess” or lead him to an answer. Then, encourage your child to elaborate on his answers. This will help them tell why more and stretch out their story or dream job when they grow up.
