Bonding Ideas – What to Do, When your Child Stops Talking to You

    Bonding Ideas - Baby Feet

I just don’t know what to do anymore. She is 8 and does not want to talk to me anymore. I do not want to lose my daughter forever. Please help.

As a counselor in the past, I heard this all the time from many parents. There are so many things you can do, but when you are at your wits end, you are too tired to think. I am not going to go on my rant about how important communication is in your family, especially with your child. Instead I am going to help with an idea and fun craft you too can try with your child. Even if you are not a struggling parent with this issue, it is a great bonding activity that can be years of fun.

Bonding Ideas – Make Your Personal Home Mailbox

There are other ways to communicate with your child, without screaming back and forth, arguing, and make sure you are listened to. Why not make a Communication Mailbox for your home. Warning when you start this, if your kids are young and think this is cool, you may have to make more than one mailbox. Only one mailbox per person is allowed. This keeps the notes back and forth, more personal.

How do you Use the Mailbox?

Less and less people are receiving actual mail anymore. That is why this idea is even more attractive to a child. They want to receive their own mail. Discuss the idea with your child. You will write letters back and forth talking about the problems AND include talking about the good things going on to. When we write it slows us down, and helps us think before we speak/write.

This special time between you and your child cannot be replaced and did help the clients I worked with. It was a happily ever after for them, and continued long after our the required time I had them do this assignment. These are “Message to the Future” letters to save forever. Save these messages in your mailboxes back and forth in a decorative Baby Time Capsule, for your child to open when they have a child themselves. They may just come in handy.
