Write your Obituary Challenge
Write your Obituary Challenge
Can you do the write your obituary challenge. It is a new year with many focusing and currently working on New Year’s resolutions. Can you sit down and think about your life. Be honest with yourself. What do you want to be know for when you are gone. I was recently thinking about my own life and how I am wanting to live each day as if the last, more often. I am wanting to eat healthier, exercise, but more importantly learn how to change my lifestyle to include more family time and giving back to others in many different ways.
How are you seizing your days? Each day goes by so fast. It is very difficult to slow down and live in the moment, let alone remember the moment. So, how do you make sure you save and remember your milestone moments in life? Birthday parties, graduations, wedding day, anniversaries, etc are all special occasions, but what about the days in between. There are funny, memorable moments with your kids, employees, and even animals on the dull days in between too.
Growing up working for a family business that dealt with the casket and funeral industry, it is hard to not think about and value life and making the most of it every day. Combined with a counseling background and helping youth and young adults with getting back on track in life, I want you to seriously think about how you are making your everyday count.
What questions can you ask yourself to challenge you to change your lifestyle to preserve more memories, live healthier, and leave lasting impressions on those that matter to you the most.
Do you want to be around for your children and grandchildren? It can be a heart retching question, but it is intended to get you to think about your daily struggles with your tempting decisions, whether it be to smoke, drink, eat too much, talk negatively, etc. We all have our bad habits that can hinder our life and years we are alive for our children and grandchildren.
Do you want to be able to remember things better as you get older and have difficulty with your memory? It can be difficult to think about, but we all get older. We all have the chance for our memory to start fading away. Sometimes it happens so slowly, that we do not even know it is happening. This is why along with writing the obituary, we want to challenge you to also write out your memories happening. At least once per week, using a favorite journal, write down one thing that happened that is a good memory. This will be a journal that you save in a family time capsule, to open and read when you get older. It is healthy and encouraged by many doctors for Alzheimer’s patients, to look at old pictures and talk or read about old memories to keep your memories and thinking alive.
What past medical issues has your family had that challenges you to think about how you treat your body every day? It is also important to make sure you know your family history medically. This will help kick you into high gear to work hard on things physically and make sure you have a less chance of getting these hereditary diseases. This is not meant to be a depressing blog, but rather an inspiring one to help you realize why it is important to live a legacy and take care of yourself now, because you are teaching your child how to live too.
Someone a long time ago challenged me. What are you doing with what you have been given in life (time, talents, gifts, etc) to change your life for the better and give back to other people? Are you happy with the legacy you are leaving? If you died today, would you be happy? Did you fulfill your bucket list? Answer these and other similar questions in our next blog. Save your answers and your obituary in your own Time Capsule. You can get a DIY time capsule here, to get started today.
Making Milestone Moments Count,
