Time Capsule History Lesson
Looking for a fun time capsule history lesson? Imagine going back in time and creating a school project or lesson plan that makes a time capsule at the same time. Hands on learning is always so much more fun. It can also help you remember things better, like people or special events. Someone posted this Facebook photo the other day, and it really had me thinking.
Successful Stay At Home Moms with Glaya and Conner Chambers on August 17 at 3:19pm on Facebook.
It is like time in a bottle. Do you remember the September 11th explosions from the planes hitting the twin towers? It is a day I will never forget. Read more about my experience with this memorable date here. Make this school year count by creating a time capsule history lesson. As there is massive flooding going on in Louisiana today, it makes me realize how important it is to preserve our history to tell the stories to future generations. We do not want history to repeat itself, if possible.
Did you ever dream that the events you were living through in life as a child, would one day be in a history book for future generations of children to read about? That fascinates me, because I never thought of that happening myself. It would be neat if students could go back to old landmarks where they went to school, hanged out for fun, or had a job and retake an updated photo of what those places look like today. That is a time capsule moment photo of then and now. Imagine the old stories you could tell in a scrapbook or photo album you make talking about the old places you remember.
The History Lesson
It would be so nice for your students to have a scrapbook they make themselves, of what it was like to live in the older days or the 1900s. Make one for whatever history time you are studying. You can even have the students study and take photos of their own town or city, including their own home, neighborhood, kitchen, what they do for entertainment today, verses what people did in the past for fun, cars then and now, etc.
Interview Grandparents
Ask the students to interview their grandparents to find out what life was like in the past compared to today. Have the students reconstruct or act out what life was like when their grandparents were alive. To get interview question ideas, check out this blog here. Have the students make a history time line putting the events in order.
Every day moments are just as important as special events, because they tell about our day to day activities, lessons, and how we bonded to friends and family. Those are the moments worth capturing, because they help define who you, your family, your past, and your environment. Preserve these memories and your history scrapbook that you make in class in a time capsule.
Finish this time capsule history lesson by each student making their own History Time Capsule, using the “Any Occasion” DIY Time Capsule. To start, the students will print out some of their favorite and meaningful photos onto the sticker paper. Then wrap the outside of the DIY Time Capsule with this sticker paper. They can use any photos they want from the computer, cell phones, internet, etc. They can also write on the outside of this DIY Time Capsule, use other artwork on it, or any other decorations. The sky’s the limit with creating this history lesson time capsule.
What would you put in your history lesson time capsule, that describes your town? Comment below.
Making Milestone Moments Count,
