Thankful Time Capsule
Learn how to make a thankful time capsule today. Have you ever wondered what life was like for your grandparents or great grandparents growing up? Can you imagine reading comments from them that they wrote in the past, saying what they were thankful for? What a special moment that would be. I am sure it would give you a good idea of how different life was for them, compared to us today.
With so many negative stories on the news today, I know I need a reminder daily of things I am thankful for. I sure would help keep me motivated and grateful for the good things in life too. What if you could pass on thankful messages and words of inspiration to your children, so they will have these messages of hope 20 years from now when the world gets even more negative? Do you think that would be a good idea?
It is so important to teach your child to be thankful for things. Involve the whole family and write down things to be grateful for to put in the thankful time capsule.
Items Needed:
- “Any Occasion” DIY Time Capsule which you can get here.
- Permanent Markers
- Pens or colored pencils
- Scissors
- Fun paper to write on
- Family photos or favorite quotes saved on your computer that you can print out on sticker sheets
How to Make a Thankful Time Capsule
Start out by having everyone in the family help cut the paper into strips. Then, each of you start writing things down about what you are thankful for this year. It will be interesting to see how your handwriting changes over the years, compared to the day when this thankful time capsule is finally opened in the future. Maybe when your child graduates high-school or has children of his or her own, and then makes a new thankful time capsule with his or her own kids. Start a new family tradition with this activity.
Are the same restaurants or local stores you kids may be thankful for still going to be around in 20, 30, or 50 years from now? It is always interesting to me to see how small towns become booming cities years in the future. As a kid you would never think that farming fields will one day be busy streets with a mall.
1. For more visual details, follow the videos on this You Tube page, here, in order (with the numbers listed in the title) to learn how to make your own “Any Occasion” DIY Time Capsule.
2. Print your photos you want on the outside of your Thankful time capsule, then apply the stickers by wrapping them around the time capsule tin making it decorative.
3. Write your family names on the outside of the time capsule tin, or let kids draw on the outside too.
4. Fill out the Profile Book, included, about the world currently. What is the current price of gas per gallon? What major world events are happening?
5. Fill out the “Message to the Future” letters included with the “Any Occasion” DIY Time Capsule. Write a note to yourself about what you think you will be thankful for next year, or 20 to 30 years from now. Do you think you will be married or have kids? Where do you think you will be working?
6. Put other sentimental items from your home inside the DIY Thankful time capsule, that you think will mean so much to you when you decide to open it again in the future to reminisce. Include an old family album, tangible mementos or souvenirs representing a special trip you went on as a family, your grandfathers pocket watch, etc.
7. Put the lid on the time capsule and write in on the lid when you want to open your thankful time capsule again in the future.
Our next blog will expand more on different topics to be thankful for and what to write about. Sometimes you do not realize how far you have come in life, until you look back. That is what will happen when you open your DIY family thankful time capsule.
What are you thankful for today? Comment below.
Making Milestone Moments Count,
– Marcie
