Tell Me About Yourself
Tell Me About Yourself
So, tell me about yourself. When someone says, “tell me about yourself,” what do you talk about? It is a new year and many of us are thinking about a becoming a “new you.” What makes you, you? Who all in your life has made an impression on you? How do you define what you do on a daily basis? Maybe it is others who define you. Maybe you want to be able to define yourself more, this year.
As many are thinking about New Year Resolutions, it can be overwhelming. Really, every day is a fresh, new start. It does not have to be just because we hit January 1, 2017 on the calendar. Many of us answer that question by telling others what we “do,” when there is really so much more to us and who we are.
What are your virtues, values, and passions in life? If you had one day left to life, what would you do and who would you be with? What keeps you going every day? What do you wake up thinking about every day? Many of us get so caught up in the here and now, busy, instant gratification world, that we forget what living is all about. Also, we forget who we are and what we want to accomplish in life. What legacy do you want to leave this world, your children, your social community, etc?
The great thing about New Year’s resolutions, is it forces us to stop and think about goals in life, or who we want to be, and how we can get there. Many times we want to change so bad, and become a new and better you, but it can be scary, hard, and may not last. Again, every day is a new start.
“A man reaps what he sows.” What do you want others to say about you when you are gone? It can be a hard thing to think about, but sometimes that is a great question to get us to really think about what we want to say in the future to someone who may ask that question of “tell me about yourself.”
Life Journey Time Capsule
I encourage you to write out what you want that answer to be, 20 or 30 years from now. Imagine opening a Time Capsule about your life journey this year. What all will you save in this time capsule. What mementos or memorabilia will represent this world as it currently is, your life, and what you want to change about yourself this year? Save your New Year’s resolutions list in this time capsule. Then, on a date of your choosing, open this Life Journey Time Capsule again in the future, and reminisce about what life was like this year (or in your past). It is a heartfelt, enduring, and unique gift to yourself to help you grow and keep you motivated to change for your better.
Sometimes it is hard to work on ourselves, because we are afraid of the outcome of changes. Think about what and who your choices to change effects. Who will you impact (excluding yourself) by making these decisions? Many times our positive choices and changes will have a positive effect on our children, friends, budget, etc. It can be a domino effect influencing so many areas of our lives.
It is also hard to change, because we may have to sacrifice some things, but if you concentrate on what you gain more, daily, it keeps you away from the negative self talk. Build a life, well respected, showing care and love for yourself and others as you work on your “new you.” Journal about your daily struggles, but also the good times. It is so helpful to review where we have come from, to know that we can go through a tough time again. Stories give us perspective, and help us be grateful for what we are going through too. Save these stories in your time capsule too. These stories, and “Message to the Future” letters you write to yourself will give hope to future generations who may read them, years or decades later. Again, it will help answer the question of “tell me about yourself.”
Use the “Any Occasion” DIY Time Capsule as seen above to make your own Life Journey Time Capsule. Add any photos you want to the outside of it to decorate it. Also, you can write on it, paint on it, or add scrapbook type embellishments to make it artistic. It is a very personalized gift to yourself. It comes with everything you need to get started on saving mementos, memorabilia, and memories from this year of the “new you.” Get yours here today.
Think about why you are here on this Earth. What is your mission or vision statement? We challenge you to write that down and save it in this Life Journey Time Capsule. What do you want? What needs to change? Write out your plan to change it and become the “new you.” It will be interesting, years later when the time capsule is opened, to see what all you have accomplished. Do this for yourself.
Keep in mind, I am talking to myself as I write this and want to lose weight, just like so many others in this world during New Year’s resolution time. What is one of your New Year’s resolutions? Comment below, so we can help support each other.
Making Milestone Moments Count,
– Marcie
