Remember the 80s
Remember the 80s
Remember the 80s, for there are many stories and lessons learned to pass on to future generations. How do you reminisce? Do you get out you old photo album, watch old videos, or do you have a box full of nostalgic items stuffed in a closet somewhere? Take a stroll down memory lane with us as we continue from our last blog and remember the 80s.
Whatever you do, don’t forget to save your favorite 80s mementos and memorabilia in a time capsule for your future grandchildren and great grandchildren to enjoy looking at years later. Reopen the time capsule 20 or 30 years later and reminisce about what life was like when you were a kid or your own child was born, by saving popular things of today too. Get your own Baby, Wedding, or “Any Occasion” DIY Time Capsule, here.
If you are really enjoying these blogs, join some of these 80s groups on Facebook and continue to interact with others who have a similar love for the good old days. It was a time when we would climb on the dangerous monkey bars at the park, upside down. Someone almost always got hurt. It was a time when it was ok to ride in the back of pick up trucks, without seat belts. Almost everyone had a swing set with kids swinging so high to see if they could get the legs to lift up off the ground. Ah the memories. With kids playing more outside in the 80s, I believe it helped us have a more creative mind for the future. We would make up games and build forts.
Last weekend I enjoyed reminiscing and watching a marathon of Back to the Future movies. It brought back so many memories. In this blog, we are taking you “back to the” 80s. It was a time when we did not have the internet to look up anything we want. Only the very rich people had mobile phones. The rest of us had the old corded phones which you could stretch far as you twisted yourself around the cord talking for hours after a certain time for free. Also if you got mad at someone over the corded phone, you could actually slam down your phone. You cannot do that with cell phones today. Kids are missing out on so much now.
There was no Facebook or Twitter to like or follow someone as a friend. To make and be a friend to someone, you had to talk to them on the phone or face to face. It was a time when ALF was a favorite TV show and the Spirograph and Teddy Ruxpin were popular toys.

Kids everywhere were beginning to be classically trained on the original Nintendo. There was no texting on cell phones. Instead, kids passed notes, folded in secret ways, during class. You grew up watching Bozo the Clown every morning before school. As a teenage girl, you had to have big, poofy hair to be considered cool. Also, everyone wore their pants tightly rolled up, or “pegged,” near their ankles.
Watching Double Dare and anything with Robin Williams was a must for me. Don’t forget about the great game show of Win, Lose or Draw. That was always fun to watch as a family too. Not to mention the fun of talking in a fan, as a kid to make the robot voice.
