Passing on Life Skills
Passing on Life Skills
Passing on life skills is highly important. You do not want to worry as a parent, when your children get older. You do not want to think your child will be taken advantage of, because they do not know some life skills.
Have you ever had to change a tire? When you do not have anyone or any money to call someone, I am beyond grateful that my father prepared me. It was a cool, Fall evening and I could hear my tire all of a sudden make a loud noise. I knew immediately what happened. While growing up, my dad would purposely put me in situations to fix things so I would know what to do in the future.
Life skills start at an early age. We start teaching our children right from wrong, and how to make good decisions. One of the most important life skills my parent’s taught me, is to always keep learning. So, hear I am down on the ground with my flat tire, now applying what I have been learning from my dad.
For a tip for the ladies reading this blog, make sure you put a blanket in your car trunk so when you have to change a tire, you do not get your dress or nice clothes messy, and you can stay warm in the Winter if your car breaks down.
Other Life Skills to Pass on to your Children
Do not wait until your children go to college, before you teach them how to wash their clothes. They will thank you for it later, because you saved them from turning a shirt pink and shrinking it. Make it a fun family bonding experience and even have your children do other odds and ends chores around your home to earn money for laundry detergent to do their laundry.
Teach your children how to do a great interview for a job. This will help them be ahead of the game compared to others who may interview for the same job. Also, it is very helpful to know how to cook some meals in preparation for college and living on their own.
For deeper and more inspiring lessons about older life or how to make it through college or hard times in life, pass on life lessons through a time capsule. You can use the “Message to the Future” letters in the Baby Time Capsule or use the “Any Occasion” DIY Time Capsule to make any time capsule you want (Birthday, Family, College, Life Journey, etc).
Put any photos of your child or family on the outside of the DIY Time Capsule to decorate it. You can also use stickers, scrapbook type embellishments, or other artwork on the outside of this DIY Time Capsule to decorate it. Bring these life skills to life when the time capsule is opened, and you reminisce about what life was like when your baby was born, or when your child had their 16th birthday. Imagine reading these life skills, handwritten on the “Message to the Future” stationary included in these time capsules.
It is a time to give back and pass on these life skills, even from your grandparents who may want to write a story and include an heirloom item in the time capsule. What would you put in your time capsule to pass on life skills, to your children? Comment below.
Making Milestone Moments Count,
