Meaningful Resolutions for New Year’s
Why not work on meaningful resolutions for New Year’s this year? As the new year is approaching, the talk about resolutions is already starting. What will you do differently next year compared to this year?
Maybe you hate resolutions. I can understand that. It is so hard to keep up with resolutions sometimes. This is why I am vowing to make more of a lifestyle change. Instantly we immediately think about our health or weight when it comes to resolutions. There are other things to get rid of and work on as well that are sometimes more important. For example, how do you spend time with your children? Do you need to cut down on work hours (if you can), to save your health and draw your family closer?
Sometimes life can hit you hard, and make you really think about more meaningful resolutions for New Year’s. Sometimes we are interrupted in our paths or journey we think we are going on in life. Sometimes when we think of resolutions we think of losing things like weight, bad habits, addictions, negative attitudes, etc.
Instead, we are going to give you idea of how to gain things and create more meaningful resolutions for New Year’s. When we approach things from a gaining mindset, we are more likely to work on our goals. Write things out in baby steps, so you are not too overwhelmed and quit. Take one day at a time.
1. Gain more happiness. Find a list online about things to be grateful for and happy about. Print the list and say one out loud every day. When we have something positive to focus on all day, it helps give our life’s perspective and keep us happy. It is amazing how quickly 15 minutes can go by. Find something you enjoy doing and only do it for 15 minutes each day. When we schedule time for us, it is called self care, and we feel more fueled to help others throughout the day. You cannot keep taking care of others if you are not taking care of yourself too. So, just like a car cannot drive without gas, fuel yourself with things that make you happy to keep you going too.
2. Gain more peace. During the holiday especially, it can be hard to stay calm around certain relatives, coworkers, or other people. Force yourself to find a common interest in someone else you do not get along with. Encourage yourself to say thank you to them for their help, even when they do not want to help. Those two little old fashioned words can go a long way in our world today. As a better idea, if you cannot say it to their face, send an actual card to them saying “Thank you.” No one hardly ever receives actual cards in the mail anymore, so a Thank You card can go a long way and would be a great way to start your more meaningful resolutions for New Year’s.
3. Gain more hope. Volunteer to help somewhere. You would be amazed at how you feel when you help someone else in need. It helps take the focus off of our own problems, when we are able to help others. When you are helping others who are in much more trouble than you, it gives you a lot of hope for your current situations. Sit down and write out a plan for how to conquer your problems. When we have a plan of attack, it seems easier to make it through tough times.
4. Gain more motivation and confidence. Actually, when it comes to food if you tell yourself you are going to eat more fruits and vegetables this year, but do it without thinking about it, you may actually do it. For example, choose to have an apple or banana with breakfast every day or every other day. Do not make it so overwhelming or think about it to the point you quit. This will slowly increase your confidence when you are doing it without thinking about it. Also surround yourself with a buddy who may be working on similar things, like an accountability partner you can trust to encourage you along with way. Read more books about a specific thing you want to learn more about. Find easy to read or books on audio to listen to, and gain wisdom about areas of your life you want to increase and make better. Listen to these on the way to work, at least once per week. Just knowing you are accomplishing that, can increase your motivation and confidence and check things off your to do list for life.
5. Gain more family time. Increase your family bonding skills. Again, set time aside every night (even if it is just 15 minutes or during commercials while watching your favorite tv show together). Make a Family Time Capsule together this Christmas, to start your new year off right with family bonding ideas. Have the kids write down different ideas of things they would like to do with you each night before bed, or after school, to increase your bonding time. It is amazing the fun and interesting things you find out about your child when you spend more time with them.
