Keeping Kids Young
Keeping kids young can be difficult, especially when time flies when you are having fun. When your kids have grown, and moved out, it can be hard letting go. When your kids have moved away or have gone to college, parents miss them. Sometimes keeping kids young and memories alive, can be done through reminiscing.
When you know your child may be coming home for the holidays, make every moment count. Set up a party, recreating a fun time you had in the past with your kids. What was a favorite time you had together as a family in the past?
The Story
He was a dedicated father, away in a foreign country, providing for his family and protecting his country. He deeply has some regrets of missing important moments in his child’s life. For example, there were missed birthdays, holidays, school projects, and regular family night events. The one memory they all remember is when the family went on vacation together to Florida.
Since the kids were coming home for college, their father decided to set up that same vacation and fun events in Florida again. It was a time to reminisce and relive the past good old days. He has a fear of their kids thinking he was not involved in every aspect of their lives. So, he planned this memory vacation.
He also planned on presenting the Vacation Time Capsule for the whole family to have fun creating. It is a plain, blank time capsule tin, until the family picked out photos to decorate it. Using the “Any Occasion” DIY Time Capsule seen here, they added their photos to the vacation scrapbook type theme on the website seen here.
Then, as they went to the same special places while on vacation, they collected souvenirs, mementos, and memorabilia to save in their Vacation Time Capsule. For example, they collected sand from their favorite beach, a receipt from their favorite restaurant, and ticket stubs from the amusement park they enjoyed again.
It was a moment of special memories, stories, and words of encouragement being shared. Each family member filled out the “Message to the Future” letters to themselves and the family. They were making predictions about the future world and their own lives, offering advice for future generations of this family, and sharing sentimental stories they want to keep alive in these letters.
Reminice
Imagine this family opening the Vacation Time Capsule 20 years from now, when the family may go back to Florida for a third time with great grand children. It will be a time of pulling important items out of their time capsule, telling stories, and laughing. Some of the family members may no longer be around, but their memories and heirloom mementos are. It will definitely be a heartfelt time together. Keeping kids young is not always easy, but it is easier when you have unique gifts like this.
