Grateful Time Capsule
In creating this Grateful Time Capsule, the focus was on allowing you to keep the best memories of the past year. The memories to focus on are what made you grateful no matter what you were grateful for. Maybe you were grateful for having friends, maybe for getting a new job or simply for being alive and happy doing whatever it is you love doing. The aim is to help you recall these grateful times when the time comes, and it is 20 years from now. You may realize that whatever made you grateful two decades ago is still your main source of happiness. We focused on creating a time capsule which will ensure you remind yourself of the good times given that most of us live our lives moaning the sad times yet forgetting to thank the good times for motivating us and making us stronger.
Your Audience
You are free to choose who your audience will be after 20 years. You could be a grandfather then, and you wish to tell your grandchildren of the life you had lived before they were born. Or you are a young man seeking meaning in life and wondering what the past and the future mean to you. No matter your audience, the Grateful Time Capsule we have designed is meant to help you make sense of the past. 20 years from now, you will learn of the past and know how much it built your future. The others you allow into your Grateful Time Capsule will also immensely benefit from this piece given the valuable lessons that will be stored here. For the most part, you will be having an easy time keeping such memories for they made part of the life you have now.
Writing the Time Capsule
You do not need to write it in any complicated language. Write using simple language as you would when talking to yourself in the mirror. Simply take note of the grateful moment you felt when, for example, you obtained that birthday gift from the high school friend you thought was long lost. Focus on the feeling and the meaning of it and how the feeling changed your outlook on life. For example, you could have had a difference with the high school friend over a small issue, but you resolved that when the birthday gift landed. What did you learn from that? Maybe you learned that the keeping a grudge is not a good thing. Or that friendship means far more than what the small differences may make the two of you think of each other. Note that down in the simplest language to yourself. It is, after all, a memory for yourself.
What to Include
Include everything you would need to recall in your Grateful Time Capsule. Even the thoughts that made you feel grateful about anything. The good thing with being grateful is that it teaches us how to view things differently. There are stories told of how someone would complain about having bad shoes yet another one did not have the shoes. The one complaining of having no shoes meets one without legs who complains having no feet to think of putting shoes on. The line goes on until they all meet one who is dead. Well, you know the dead have nothing to celebrate. Each of these people has a lesson to teach about gratefulness.
There are many reasons to be thankful. Be thankful that you have two or more pairs of shoes, you have feet, you have everything that one or several people do not have. Best of all, that you are alive in the first place. Even the times you were feeling hurt or low should also be recorded, but only at the point, you learned to overcome the problem. For example, you could have lost your job but found a new and better one. Such a lesson should teach you the value of resilience and other things.
Our Grateful Time Capsule is also focused on ensuring you have on record the times that changed your perspectives on certain issues. For example, that moment when you learned why something was not working and what you did about it.
What would you put in your Grateful Time Capsule? Comment below.
Making Milestone Moments Count,
