Differences between Generations
It is amazing the differences between generations, and what all has changed in our world. It happens so fast too. Have you ever sat down with your parents or grandparents and talked with them about how things were in the past? So much has changed in our world today.
Every generation and family has events and milestone moments that define it. As times change, so do values and unfortunately traditions can be lost. What was considered “normal” in the past is no longer that way or is unacceptable. There are many differences between today’s generation and the millennials or those of the past.
I value my family and am always trying to learn from them and their wisdom so that I do not make the same mistakes in life. The younger generation today is so different in that they are so technology driven and worried about keeping up with the latest cell phones, or social media. They may be on social media, but are lacking other skills many times like how to truly show customer service and value others by talking to them in person, versus over a screen. They are so tech savvy that they do not practice communicating face to face with people. They forget what it is like to go to a library and look up information, because now there is the instant gratification of just going to Google and finding your answer.
There are many soft skills that you cannot get in a classroom or on a computer screen. Work ethic is different nowadays. Work discipline is lacking as more and more people of this generation are just expecting things to be given to them, without waiting for it or working for it. Coming to work everyday, on time, being properly dressed, and showing you are a hard worker and customer service is lacking in this generation. This is hard to accept sometimes that these things are happening. Now, do not get me wrong. Technology is not bad. It is great in fact to always advance our world. However, when I see families looking down at their cell phones constantly at work or when dining out with their family at a nice restaurant, my heart sinks. This technology and different interaction of today can steal many families of important bonding time, which is what helps keep traditions alive and builds great character for their future lives.
When looking at trends of today, people are more self focused. It is even encouraged by taking a ‘selfie.’ What is amazing and exciting is that more millennials are excited about serving and giving away for a cause. We at The Original Time Capsule company are excited about this, because we want to grab a hold of this interest and take it to the next step. We want families to use technology for the better and give away words of wisdom, care, and passion about making their lives stand for something important and lasting. That is what a DIY Time Capsule is all about. The Millennial generation does love doing good and base some buying decisions on that. This is why we cannot wait as a company to grow and donate a part of our sales to great social causes that give back to others in the future. That is on our own company bucket list.
What is on your bucket list that you want to accomplish in life? We encourage all generations to save their own bucket list in their own personal DIY Time Capsule or make a bucket list as a family. Draw closer together as a family and find great causes to give your time to, like Habitat for Humanity, or the local food bank. Save photos of your work together as a family in your own DIY Time Capsule. Make a Family Time Capsule together preserving this important time together as a family serving others. What lessons would you like to pass on to your children and grandchildren in the future?
What advice would you write on a “Message to the Future” letter to offer your future children and grandchildren, about how to serve and love others around you? Get a “Message to the Future” letter to fill out today and put in your DIY Time Capsule. Click here to get started today.
The DIY Time Capsule can be used as a way to draw generations together. It can be cool to make a time capsule. There are many differences between generations. It is up to you as a family to draw closer to each other’s generation. What do you want others to say about your generation in the future? Comment below.
Making Milestone Moments Count,
