Collecting Memories in DIY Memory Jars or Containers
We are continuing our blog about collecting memories in DIY memory jars or containers. It is important to collect memories, not things all the time. We live in such a materialistic world, that we often forget that tomorrow is never promised. What do you want to be known for in life to your friends, children, or grandchildren?
I was always taught to live each day as if the last. Who or what milestone moments define what you are? If you were stranded on a desert island, what three mementos would you take with you? When we think in these terms, it helps us narrow down the most important and meaningful things we would put in our DIY memory jars or containers.
In addition to our previous blog, here are some other topics or special occasions to make a DIY memory jar, container, or time capsule for.
- First Grade – Your child is about to start the first grade. Save all their milestone moment mementos in this decorative jar or container. Save yarn that is the height of your child at the beginning and end of the first grade. They grow up so fast.
- Graduation – What happened your senior year of high school? Who influenced you going to a specific college? Collect notes and photos from your best friends and memorabilia from your graduation party.
- Birthday – Put a pictures of the party, ribbons, birthday hat, ticket stubs from places you went that special day, small toys, etc in the memory jar, container or Time Capsule.
- Summer – Include your Summer goals list, how much weight you lost over Summer, pictures of summer break with your friends or kids, etc.
- Vacation – Where did you go this year? Save the menus from favorite restaurants, or other special places you went on vacation.
- New Years – Put your New Year’s Resolutions list in the memory jar, container or Time Capsule. Who did you spend this special holiday with? Write “Message to the Future” letter to yourself about where you think you will be in life in the future.
- Memories – Because this one is so broad, you will need to save your most favorite memories for one year. What were you most impacting and memorable moments from this year.
- Christmas – Show presents you received this year, or show you using the Christmas present throughout the year in a picture. Write funny sayings family says during the holidays. When you need a good laugh, open your Christmas memory jar, container, or Time Capsule and reminisce.
- Career – What have you accomplished in your career. Save rewards, gas receipts showing where you have traveled. What favorite coworker pictures would you display in your memory jar, container, or time capsule. Have your job mentor write a letter about where they see you in the future.
What would you do if your laptop or cell phone was stolen? I think I would scream. My whole life is on my laptop. I have a lot of family memories and photos that define who I am on there. This is how important we value memories and tangible items in your life. This is why we want you to preserve these memories.
