Christmas Family Time Capsule
Make a Christmas family time capsule this year. Sometimes we get so busy in this world we forget to be a kid again, or we overlook the fun in lost artwork or activities. A time capsule is just one of those activities that we can create, and then years after open and say “Oh, that was cool.” When you start it up, it’s going to be something which is meaningful and says a whole lot about your life at that moment.
Put things that mean something to your family from this season. Complete a time capsule quiz or questionnaire for every family member to complete. You could ask questions like what is your favorite movie, song, food, game, restaurant, television show, shoe size, and thought to provoke questions such as, what do you want to be when you grow up. A time capsule is an excellent personalized gift. Also collect daily receipts so that you know the purchase price of a gallon of milk, bread, gasoline, etc.. Receive a newspaper so that you know the current events, or create your year in review worksheet by looking up topics online. Additionally, be sure you include your important images in the time capsule also. I am confident to have plenty on your mobile phone you can print off on acid-free photo paper. Most of all, include “Message to the Future” letters on your own, parents, or grandparents. What a special moment it is to see a letter in your grandfather years after, when he may no longer be residing. Do not forget to place your “Do Not Open Until” date at the top of the lid. To help be sure that you don’t have any early peakers, you might even seal the lid with clear box tape.

What funny or unique expressions did your family say, that are inside jokes just you understand? Contain these fun sayings in a small journal or notebook in the time capsule. Bad Santa
Each year, my family does that which we call, “Bad Santa.” It’s sort of like a white elephant game where we find strange things or left over things around our home to wrap up in Christmas paper and give away as presents. You draw numbers, and everyone picks out a present in order of the numbers. It’s an enjoyable way to reminisce because you may find an old present back in the past that somebody has given you. It’s amazing that the funny stories and laughter that arises as we go about opening the presents.
When your time capsule is opened, I am sure it’s going to be a similar feeling of bliss as you reminisce about what toys and gadgets you thought were cool in years past versus the future. Will we even have mobile phones in the future? We rely on them so much nowadays, it’s difficult to imagine a life without them, but I guess it’s possible. What will your predictions be for our future? Place a listing in the time capsule, discussing what you believe will happen to humans from the future? The only way to discover is to have a time capsule and start creating your list now, to open years after.
You might also create a movie of your loved ones this Christmas to pass on to your grandchildren, so they will understand what life was like when you’re a kid. As you household acts goofy together this vacation, gathers around the dinner table and gives thanks, sings a couple of tunes, and shares stories, and be certain to discuss the following.
- Your Memories
- Your Plans
- Your Background and that you are in the household.
- What makes it possible to make tough decisions in life?
- What you need to do with your life.
- Favorite family bonding activities.
- Your favorite family story.
- Where you think your parents conceal your gifts before wrapping them for Christmas.
- What movie best describes your present family? (It would be interesting to hear the various replies from family members).
So as you come together as a family this Christmas, what stories and customs do you wish to stay alive in your loved ones? Be certain to maintain them in your time capsule, to pass on to future generations of grandchildren.
