Let’s continue this series on birthday time capsule ideas. In our last blog, we discussed how to make a birthday time capsule video. Today we are going to tell you want to put in a birthday time capsule. He was having a surprise birthday party with all his friends and other family members showing up all of a sudden. The room was filled with excitement, happiness, and stories. Then, the birthday time capsule was brought out and set on the table in front of him. He had already watched an old video of himself asking questions (from his younger self), about where he is today in life. It was a great video and very thought provoking. Have you kept that list to look back on and review what all you have accomplished and been through? A time capsule is a decorative keepsake case or tin, that can save your mementos and memories in for years, to open in the future and reminisce about what life was like at that time in your life. List of What to Put in a Birthday Time Capsule Everyone is different, comes from different backgrounds, experiences, and has a different personality. What items do you cling to in life, to help you get through? What things identify what makes you, you? What about you is similar to your parents, grandparents, etc? A time capsule and the items in it can help answer some of these questions. A time capsule is meant to be a fun project that you treasure for years. A birthday time capsule can be made at any point in your life. It is best to make it at a birthday party 10, 20, or 50 years ago so that it is long enough that you forget what happened in the past.

• an old school photo of yourself. Make sure your photos have dates on the back and describe what you were doing in the photo, along with who all was in the photo.
• a wrapper of your favorite candy bar at that time in your life.
• an old favorite book
• a photo of your bedroom and if you were a teenage girl a poster of some of the popular tv or movie stars you had on the wall in your room.
• a “Message to the Future” letter from a teacher, parents, family member or friend about predictions of where they see you in the future.
• a movie or concert ticket stub of what you went to see at that time.
• a page from your diary or your entire journal can be saved in the time capsule.
• a menu from your favorite restaurant (is that restaurant still in business 20 years later?)
• a price list of several items from that time (gallon of gas, gallon of milk, bread, coffee, McDonald’s hamburger, a pizza, pop, candy bar, pack of gum, pair of jeans, average t-shirt, cd, tennis shoes, movie theater ticket, new car, average house, etc).
• a list of your favorites (color, snack foods, meal, desert, restaurant, movie, tv show, book, song, car, sports team, sports, subject, etc)
• an about me page to fill out (height, weight, hair color, eye color, last time at the doctor, shoe size, address, school/work name, and other important facts about you).
• souvenirs from vacations or favorite places or events.
• newspaper from the day the time capsule was made.
• a school year book.
• a Birthday Card from the year you made the time capsule.
• List of websites you used the most at that time.
• List of employees you worked with, your work schedule, and pay stub.
• party supplies left over from your special birthday in the past.
• etc.
